4 types of individuals not suitable for face contouring [Silhouette Soft]

As a well-established aesthetic clinic with over a decade of experience, our team of doctors are not only highly skilled but also have a wealth of experience in performing a wide range of facial aesthetic procedures. Dr Lim Ting Song, our Director, has personally witnessed the transformative power of face contouring for hundreds of patients.

Face contouring can help to reduce the appearance of sagging skin, wrinkles, fine lines in addition to improving the contour in both the face and jawline. When performed accurately, it has the potential to produce a rejuvenated or balanced appearance that enhances the facial features, creating a more youthful and refreshed look.

Silhouette Soft is typically recommended for individuals in their mid- to late-30s to mid-50s with good skin support structure. However, age is not the only factor to consider when it comes to thread lifting procedures. Good skin support structure is also crucial for the success of the treatment. This means that the subcutaneous tissue layer of the skin, which contains fat cells, blood vessels, and other structures, must be strong enough to anchor the threads and provide the necessary lift and support to the skin. Without a strong foundation, the desired results may not be achieved.

Hence it is important to note that face contouring may not be suitable for everyone. In this blog post, we will explore four types of individuals who may not be ideal candidates for face contouring.

4 types of individuals not suitable for face contouring [Silhouette Soft]

1.PATIENTS WITH EXTREMELY LOOSE SKIN

Silhouette Soft can be an effective treatment option for those with mild to moderate facial sagging and skin laxity, but it may not be suitable for those with significant or severe skin laxity. Since the threads are designed to be placed under the skin and anchored to the underlying tissue, where they can provide support and lift to the skin, a patient with severely loose skin may not be able to provide the required support for Silhouette Soft threads.

In addition, Silhouette Soft is not intended to address excess skin or remove wrinkles, and it is not a substitute for surgical procedures like facelifts or neck lifts. It can deliver some degree of skin lifting and tightening on the face and neck, but may fall short in achieving outcomes that are comparable to surgical procedures, especially for individuals with notable skin laxity.

In such scenarios, Dr. Lim’s recommendation to the patient would be to address the underlying issue.

SOLUTION:

To start, our doctors would address the root cause of a patient’s severe loose skin with a skin-tightening procedure such as Ultherapy or TempSure to lift and firm the skin. This procedure should be combined with Radiesse Plus/Ellanse for optimal results. For those unfamiliar with Radiesse Plus or Ellanse, they are injectable biostimulators used for smoothing moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, most particularly the nasolabial folds (the creases that extend from the corner of your nose to the corner of your mouth) that are most evident due to aging. Stimulation of collagen and elastin occurs when it is injected into the dermal layer.

Radiesse Plus and Ellanse is proven safe for all skin types and is popular as the results are wonderfully natural. When paired with Ultherapy, injectable biostimulators act as a complement agent to boost collagen and elastin growth which contribute to the skin’s strength and elasticity. A booster also maximises enhancements and increases the longevity of the Ultherapy procedure.

In addition to the skin, EMFace is a powerful procedure that not only improves the appearance of the skin but also helps to strengthen the facial muscles that may have weakened due to aging. By targeting the deeper fascial and muscle layers, EMFace is able to promote facial repositioning, resulting in more comprehensive and effective results. Treating the skin alone may not produce comparable effects.

2. PATIENTS WITH OLD AND WRINKLED SKIN

Old and wrinkled skin often lacks collagen, a protein responsible for providing the skin with strength, elasticity, and a youthful appearance. Loss of collagen can cause the skin to become thinner, looser, and more prone to wrinkles and sagging. While Silhouette Soft threads can stimulate collagen production, which may improve the overall quality and texture of the skin, excessively wrinkled and weak skin may not respond as effectively to this collagen-boosting effect, resulting in less noticeable or long-lasting results. Essentially, Silhouette Soft threads may not be able to provide sufficient support and lift to achieve the desired outcome if the skin is already very thin and delicate or if deep and numerous wrinkles are present.

SOLUTION:

Dr. Lim’s approach involves addressing the underlying skin concerns by replenishing the collagen and elastin in the skin. To achieve this, skin boosters and healers such as Plinest are employed to create an optimal skin environment. Multiple sessions may be required for optimal results, as Plinest has been shown to improve the skin’s ability to recover and regenerate.

The strength of Sylfirm X lies in its ability to stimulate and repair basement membranes. This skin basement membrane sits between the epidermis and the dermis. It acts as an anchor, a barrier, and plays an important role in tissue development, homeostasis and repair of skin tissues. When we have troubled skin, it is due to the deterioration of our skin health which may be due to aging, over-exposed to UV radiation, repeated injuries, irritations, and inflammation.

Sylfirm X treats the skin by rejuvenating the basement membrane of the skin. This reduces abnormal blood vessels, triggers fibroblasts to produce collagen and elastin, soften the scar tissues, promote tissue recovery and reduce oil glands activities.

The combination of Sylfirm X and Plinest can achieve the below and more:

  • Remodelling skin collagen and elastin for enhanced hydration and suppleness
  • Strengthens and improves overall skin health from within
  • Treats the root cause of melasma and other pigmentary disorders
  • Promotes skin tightening and increase elasticity
  • Improves appearance of fine lines, scars and stretch marks
  • Prevent future signs of aging

When used in conjunction with skin boosters and healers like Plinest, these treatments can effectively elevate the level of skin rejuvenation and restoration.

3.PATIENTS WITH EXCESS FACIAL FAT

In those with a fuller or fat face, the threads may not be able to provide enough lift and support to achieve the desired results, as the underlying volume of fat can interfere with the lifting effect.

In fact, those with a fuller or fat face may benefit more from other treatment options such as facial liposuction or a facelift. These procedures can help to remove excess fat and reshape the face, providing a more defined and contoured appearance.

SOLUTION:

Our body sculpting team can assist with weight management techniques to reduce excess facial fat. For instance, specialized CoolMini and SculpSure applicators are effective in targeting double chins. In the case of sagging skin and folds, Dr. Lim recommends Ultherapy and Tempsure with Sylfirm X. Additionally, weakened facial muscles may also cause a heavy face. EMFace is currently the only facelift procedure that not only stimulates collagen but also strengthens facial muscles. Just like body muscles, stronger facial muscles can lift and support the skin, reducing the sagging appearance caused by aging. EMFace’s non-invasive facial sculpting sessions can lift brows, cheeks, and the lower face while reducing wrinkles, leaving you with a toned, tightened, and lifted face without any pain or downtime.

4.PATIENTS WITH FACIAL VOLUME LOSS [too thin or gaunt]

Individuals with a very thin or gaunt face may not possess sufficient underlying tissue or fat to provide support to the threads and produce the intended lift and tightening outcomes. In such cases, alternative treatment options such as dermal fillers or fat transfer could be more suitable in reinstating the volume and shaping of the face. However fillers injection is not to be taken as a one-solution for all individuals with slim faces.

SOLUTION

Adding HA fillers to volumised a thin face is an oversimplification method. Dr. Lim advocates taking a comprehensive approach which includes strengthening the facial muscles and lifting the skin. As a first step, he suggests using EMFace to strengthen the muscles, which can also help lift the skin for a more youthful appearance. Next,

Ultherapy and TempSure can be effective treatments for providing a deeper, targeted lift, which can help to reduce the appearance of a “gaunt” face.

Overall skin quality can further be improved with a skin booster like Plinest. Depending on individuals, Sylfirm X would be advantageous as well as it helps restore and boost overall skin health.
