Kick-start your weight loss journey at Clique Clinic

Malaysia is Asia’s fattest country with approximately half of the population overweight or obese. The prevalence of obesity has increased 80.7% and 302% respectively in just under two decades (NHMS 2015).

Weight management is not as simple as we think. Every year you try to eat less and less, but gain more and more. Sure, some of this has to do with the medical condition and biology of ageing, but most of the time weight gain is caused by an unhealthy diet and lack of good exercise habits which can be improved with the help of character building. Even with a healthy diet and exercise some people may still find it very difficult to maintain a healthy weight. In such cases, the individual may benefit from The Elipse™ Gastric Balloon.

What’s Elipse™ Gastric Balloon?

This special weight management balloon induces weight loss by increasing satiety (fullness), delaying gastric emptying and reducing the amount of food eaten at each time. Offering a “honeymoon from hunger”, this specialized weight loss balloon is designed to assist in effective weight management.

How does the Elipse Balloon work?

The Elipse™ Balloon comes in the form of a capsule. Without the need of anesthesia and endoscopy, you would be asked to swallow the capsule as you would a large tablet. Once it is swallowed, the doctor ensures it is in place using an X-ray. The balloon is then filled with saline via a catheter. The Elipse Gastric Balloon is sealed with a valve once the catheter is withdrawn.

This non-surgical weight loss process ensures safe insertion of the stomach balloon, circumventing the need for complex procedures that come with higher risks.

How long would this programme last?

The Elipse™ Balloon stays in your stomach for 4 months. After that, the acidic saline inside the balloon degrades the valve, allowing the saline to leak out harmlessly. The deflated balloon is then naturally excreted from the body.

During this 4-month journey, we tailor the programme to help you achieve the best results according to your lifestyle, budget and weight loss target. Our clinicians will focus on optimizing your weight loss journey while ensuring that the process is safe.

How much weight can I expect to lose?

After approximately 4 months, you may expect to lose an average of 10 to 15 kilograms, or around 10% to 15% of your body weight. The weight loss can be sustained at 12 months follow up, or even longer if you sustain a healthy lifestyle.

FAQs

Being overweight has a significant physical and mental impact on your health. It can lead to low self-esteem, limit your involvement in sports or other activities that could help you regain fitness, prevent you from joining in family fun and lead to time off work due to illness or extreme tiredness.

Our doctors are highly trained and experienced. You can expect to receive expert, tailored and personalised care from the team.
You will also meet our nutritionist who provides dietary counselling and meal survellient support for patients undergoing this swallowable Elipse™ Gastric Balloon procedure.

You have a formal consultation with a doctor or body contouring specialist. During this time, you can explain your medical history, and symptoms and raise any concerns that you might have. We also discuss with you if any further diagnostic tests, like scans or blood tests, are needed, and let you know if there are additional costs before we do them.

After your physician confirms Elipse Balloon therapy is right for you, He will place the balloon in your stomach during a brief 20 minute outpatient visit. You will swallow a capsule that contains the deflated balloon along with a thin tube. Once the capsule has entered your stomach, your doctor will use the tube to fill the balloon with water. Once the balloon is filled, your Doctor will gently remove then tube-and you’ll be on your way.

Most people are able to swallow the Elipse Balloon without issue. People who do have difficulty swallowing it can be assisted by their physician., who will guide the balloon into place- still without Endoscopy or Anesthesia.

The balloon is filled with 550ml of water.

There are no absolute dietary restrictions with the Elipse Program. However, to maximize weight loss and optimize comfort, your nutritionist will make recommendations that are best tailored to you your body and your goals.

No, it doesn’t affect nutrient absorption as it doesn’t interfere with the digestive process in the intestines. It influences portion control and satiety.

After approximately 16 weeks inside your stomach, a time-activated release valve on the balloon will open, allowing it to empty and pass naturally through the gastrointestinal tract without the need for a removal procedure.

By the time your balloon passes, your body will be accustomed to feeling healthy and energized with smaller portions.

The cost of the Elipse Ballon procedure varies based on individual needs and clinic pricing. For accurate and detailed information, please contact our clinic directly.
The Elipse Balloon is generally safe. However, some individuals may experience minor side effects such as nausea, abdominal discomfort, or vomiting the first few days after placement. These symptoms will subside as the body adjusts to the balloon. Complications such as balloon deflation or migration are rare, and our clinicians are trained and equipped to address them promptly.
The Elipse Gastric Balloon is recommended for individuals with BMI ranging between 27 to 40, and who have been unsuccessful with traditional weight loss methods. Nonetheless, our clinicians will determine suitability during the initial consultation.
While the Elipse Balloon will aid patients in jump-starting weight loss, sustained weight loss often needs lifestyle modifications. Dietary counselling, exercise and ongoing support are essential for your weight loss journey.
Patients can usually return to their daily activities shortly after the procedure. Heavy lifting and strenuous exercise should be avoided for a few days until your body adapts to the balloon.
Our clinicians will continue to provide guidance on maintaining your achieved weight loss goals, adopting healthier habits, and possibly transitioning into a maintenance program to sustain the results.
This depends on your individual needs. Our nutritionist may recommend specific supplements to ensure you receive adequate vitamins and minerals during the program.
Our team is available to address any discomfort or concerns patients experience during the program. Do contact us if you experience unexpected issues.
This depends. The success of maintaining weight loss post-removal of the Elipse balloon depends largely on continued adherence to healthy eating and lifestyle habits. Our clinicians will help you transition to sustainable habits for long-term results.
We recommend avoiding alcohol consumption during the 4-month period with the Elipse Balloon. Alcohol may cause discomfort and hinder weight loss efforts.
The Elipse gastric balloon is not recommended for pregnant individuals. If you’re planning on starting a family, we advise you to discuss with our clinicians the best time to start the program.
Weight loss achieved through the gastric balloon may lead to improvements for certain obesity-related health conditions. However, individual results may vary, and ongoing management of these conditions is essential. The Elipse Balloon is not a replacement for your current treatments.
The results vary among individuals. Some may notice changes in appetite and weight within the first few weeks. Others may experience a more gradual progress over time.
Consuming excessive amounts of food might lead to discomfort or nausea due to the restricted space in the stomach while the balloon is in place. Thus, it’s important to practice portion control and listen to your body’s signals.
The best way to maintain a healthy weight post-balloon removal is through sustainable habits such as portion control, mindful eating, regular physical activity, and a healthy diet.
The Elipse Balloon is designed with safety in mind and remains in the stomach only for a limited time. It is made of biocompatible materials which minimise the risk of damage to the stomach.
