Forehead wrinkles, laugh lines, crow feet. These unwelcome additions to your smooth, young face is unfortunately part of the natural aging process. For many, it is frustrating, psychological and mentally stressful. Thankfully, the advances of medical aesthetic technology has made such aging concerns reversible, or at the very least, reduced in severity.

A common solution for anti-wrinkles or softening of wrinkles involves the injection of neurotoxins, and the current market favourites are namely Botox, DySport and Xeomin.

For Dr Chong Ian, Xeomin remains his choice as Xeomin is a pure neurotoxin.

Xeomin is made through a unique precision manufacturing process that isolates only the required components of the molecule. It removes the accessory proteins and additives that don’t play an active role in a neurotoxin treatment, and the outcome is a highly purified neurotoxin that is FDA approved for aesthetic treatments.

In comparison, other neurotoxin brands still contain complexing proteins which affects its long-term efficacy.

What do neurotoxins do?

Neurotoxins such as Xeomin are best used to block the release of body chemicals that cause muscle contractions. Frown lines, laughing lines and most wrinkles are formed when facial expressions are made because the muscle under the skin contracts. Overtime, as your skin ages these repeated expressions cause lasting frown lines. A neurotoxin such as Xeomin softens moderate-to-severe frown lines between the eyebrows (also known as glabellar lines) and has been proven to be just as effective for wrinkles around the eye area as well as fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth. Xeomin relaxes the muscles of the targeted facial parts and hence the severity of the lines are reduced.

Just a small dose can deliver attractive, long-lasting results and minimize lines and wrinkles in several areas of your face.

Why is pure, zero impurities neurotoxin important?
The most obvious reason would be for safety. It is suitable for persons with skin sensitivities as there are fewer proteins to interact with the body. In terms of efficacy, using pure neurotoxin also lowers the risk of patients developing “neutralising antibody formation”. This means patients will not begin to build up resistance against neurotoxins even after years of continuous neurotoxin procedures.

Is Botulinum Toxin resistance serious?

Formation of neutralising antibodies, due to the unnecessary complexing proteins found in most botulinum toxin products, results in reduced efficacy of subsequent treatments. Choosing a high purity neurotoxin with zero complexing proteins will lower the risk of antibody formation and therefore, the risk of diminishing efficacy for the patient.

Over the years, our doctors have witnessed patients who had developed neutralising antibodies and seen how these patients stopped reaping results from further neurotoxins treatments. This has caused frustrations, wasted resources (finances, time, effort) and disappointment for patients.

“In medical practice, the advocacy is always for prevention rather than cure.

So start right, use pure neurotoxins and stay assured that there will be no risk of neutralising antibodies in the long term use of Xeomin,” Dr Chong said.

At what age can patients start neurotoxins treatments?

“For the sole purpose of preventing or reducing fine lines on the face, the earlier one starts, the better. There is no real “right age”. We have patients ranging from mid 20’s to the late 60’s for Xeomin treatments. On average, they visit every 6 months for a quick touch up treatment. Each Xeomin session is quick with minimal discomfort, and not as scary as many would perceive it to be,” Dr Ian explained.

The misconception about Xeomin procedures :

Looking plastic or overdone is a common concern among individuals considering a neurotoxin procedure. Looking overdone is a question of dosing and is preventable. At Clique our doctors are focused on natural looking outcomes and will recommend the required dosage after a consultation.

Xeomin neurotoxins exert their effect in around 7 days after it has been injected, with the effects lasting up to 6 months

The procedure takes about 10-20 minutes, and you will see the results in about 1-2 weeks. The results last up to 3-6 months depending on your lifestyle.

We recommend a touch up every 6 months. Again, this will vary based on your lifestyle.
