PLINEST VS REJURAN (SKIN HEALING BOOSTER
Both Plinest and Rejuran are Polynucleotides (known as PN/PN-PHT) injectable treatments which improves overall skin health. Not to be confused with other injectables such as HA fillers (Belotero/Radiesse/Ellansé/Neauvia/Restylane/Teosyal/Saypha/Algeness) or bio-stimulators (Radiesse/Ellansé/Profhilo), Plinest and Rejuran are regenerative gels that are known as “Bio-Regenerative Injectables” or ‘ Skin Rejuvenator’. Bio-regenerative injectables are popular for its ability to trigger self-repair and regeneration capabilities within our skin with no irritations or complications due to its high bio- compatible polynucleotides.
Once injected, both Plinest and Rejuran rebuild skin health from within by stimulating collagen and regenerating fibroblast (a type of cell that contributes to skin healing), allowing your cells to naturally recover and restore.
WHICH IS BETTER?
Since Plinest and Rejuran seem similar, is there an advantage of one over the other? Which should you choose? Is one particularly more effective and are both safe?
Such concerns are natural. To clarify the pros and cons of each, we have Dr Lim Ting Song (Master Trainer of Plinest Malaysia) and Dr Christie Moey (Trainer of Rejuran Academy Malaysia), both strong advocates of “Skin Health Rejuvenators” (the category for Rejuran and Plinest) to share their thoughts on the effectiveness of both.
ORIGIN:
Plinest is the pioneer of the polynucleotide (PN) gel, which was later used in Rejuran as well as in other PN or PDRN gels that currently flooded the market. For Plinest, the polynucleotide (PN) gel is recovered from Italian Trout Fish utilizing Mastelli’s HPT (highly purified technology), which was invented and patented in Italy. Rejuran’s PN is derived from wild salmon gonad in South Korea.
UNDERSTANDING HOW PN WORKS:
Polynucleotide (PN) gel has a stimulating effect on trophism (regeneration) of dermal cells and tissues. When injected into the skin (specifically the dermis), its ability to promote fibroblast and collagen production accelerates skin repair, resulting in better skin radiance, youthful looking textures plus improved skin rigidity and elasticity.
Within weeks, patients enjoy incremental improvements in skin health.
Based on over 100 patients’ results, Dr Lim and Dr Christie found Rejuran and Plinest both effective and the choice of using one over the other would be subjective to the patient’s condition and preferences.
TREATMENT AREAS:
Who would be a good candidate for bio-regenerative injectables?
Rejuran and Plinest are color-friendly and gender neutral. Men and women in their 30’s to 60’s with damaged skin due to aging, frequent sun-exposure and dehydration will benefit from bio-regenerative injectables as much as those in their 30’s to 40’s with history of severe acne resulting in damaged scarred skin.
Below are the key areas for Rejuran and Plinest:
- Face
- Neck
- Hands
- Lower body especially for stretch marks
- Scalp (for dry, problematic scalp)
- Hair loss areas (alopecia)
- Various scars
- Vulvo-vaginal areas for tightening
EFFICACY:
On paper, Plinest offers a slight edge over Rejuran so far with its patented PHT technology as it is highly purified and truly bio-compatible. In theory this means less irritations, less long residue and complications for long term use.
However, this is an ongoing study and our doctors do not prescribe to “one solution that offers best results” for any single product. Patients’ results are compiled and carefully documented over several months (or years) by Dr Lim, Dr Ian, Dr Hannah, Dr Derrick, Dr Tiffany and Dr Christie. Variation in ages, genders and skin conditions affect efficacy, and since most of our patients underwent multiple modalities, there are many factors in play.
As technology is ever-revolving, our doctors stay abreast of developments so they can offer their best expertise to their patients.
Overall, both Rejuran and Plinest patients have reported high satisfaction rates. *In general, once a patient completes a full course of Rejuran or Plinest, it is unlikely for anyone to return to standard injectables as the results from Rejuran and Plinest are quite remarkable.
* dependant on skin condition and patient desired skin goals
SAFETY:
Both Rejuran and Plinest® are US FDA approved and have been proven to be safe and efficacious with more than hundreds of published clinical studies. The gels have a high biocompatibility, are safe substances and cause no side effects. Plinest® is also EU CE marked, means the product is conformity with European standards.
PATIENT COMFORT:
Topical numbing cream is applied on the skin before the start of treatment. As this is an injectable procedure, needle stings level of discomfort is to be expected. Most patients report mild discomfort, but not unbearable pain. Each treatment takes about 10-20 minutes to complete.
Rejuran requires multiple injection points so it is not uncommon to have multiple tiny bumps from the injections for the next 24-30 hours post-treatment. For Plinest our doctors use either multiple injection points or the micro-cannula method which is a single injection point.
Do note that your doctor’s experience and skills with injection control and precision will help to reduce the trauma. Ultimately, this reduces bruising and downtime for the patient. So it is crucial to choose a skilled injector who has sufficient experience in administering the procedure.
Is there any downtime?
There will be injection site marks, mild swelling and possibly bruising depending on your skin. Downtime lasts 1-3 days depending on the individual. We advise patients to stop blood-thinning supplements 5 days before the procedure.
COST:
Rejuran is priced slightly lower than Plinest. However, patients should not focus on price alone and allow it to be the sole determining factor in selecting between Rejuran or Plinest. Skin condition, product efficacy and longevity of treatment are important factors. We encourage potential patients to consult with our doctors to better understand both Rejuran and Plinest and to discuss desired results. More often than not, the best skin is achieved via multiple modalities.
TREATMENT PROTOCOL:
Generally patients require an average of 5 sessions, spaced 3-4 weeks apart to achieve desirable results. The first to third treatments are at 2 weeks intervals, while the 4th and 5th treatment can be 1 month apart.
Maximized effects can be expected when combined with other treatments
MAINTENANCE:
Additional session is recommended in 6~12 months after a treatment protocol of 5 sessions
RESULTS:
When can I see results?
Collagen rebuilding and fibroblast proliferation are processes which take time. Some patients see noticeable results after the first session and that is mostly in terms of skin texture – better glow, brighter and smoother skin. In general it takes about 2-4 weeks after your first session to begin enjoying the benefits of Plinest and Rejuran. You might observe increased skin elasticity and lift due to the collagen stimulation, faded fine wrinkles and reduction in pore size.
Further improvements are clearer after the third session, with visible natural lifting and skin volumizing. The desirable outcome of youthful skin is typically after the full course.
CONCLUSION:
Case studies confirmed that the polynucleotide (PN) contained in Plinest and Rejuran are helpful for restoring our human skin complexion. Regardless of Rejuran or Plinest, stay assured that both are versatile because of its ability to be combined with different skin modalities as an option to boost results and for supporting skin repair process.
CONTRA INDICATIONS:
We do not recommend this treatment to pregnant mothers and if you’re allergic to trout, salmon fish or seafood.
