Botulinum Toxin (BTx)

BOTOX®, Dysport® and Xeomin® are drugs made from neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum called botulinum toxin. Botulinum toxin (BTx) is injected into humans in extremely small concentrations and works by preventing signals from nerve cells reaching muscles. When injected in small doses into specific muscles, the toxin keeps the muscles from contracting. When the muscles can't tighten, the skin appears smoother and less wrinkled.

Throughout the years, botulinum toxin has been used to treat a variety of medical conditions such as muscular conditions, eye squints, migraines, excess sweating and leaky bladders. Beyond its medical applications, botulinum toxin is predominantly used as a treatment to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles and fine lines in adults by temporarily paralysing the targeted muscles.

BTx has been proven to be a successful and valuable therapeutic protein when dosage, frequency of treatment and variety of treated clinical conditions are considered.

BTx works well on frown lines between the eyebrows and across the forehead and on crow's-feet at the eye corners. There are several established brands including BOTOX®, Dysport® and Xeomin® that are all FDA approved and used all over the globe.

Results typically last about three to four months. However, with the latest advancements in aesthetic medicine, the newest treatment Xeomin® are able to rid the skin of those frown lines for up to six months.

With BTx, you can now enjoy smooth, younger looking skin with no downtime. Just note that the effects of BTx do not last forever. Repeat injections are needed every few months to maintain optimum results. So, find out more from our doctors today!

6 things you must know about Xeomin®
1. It is a lunchtime treatment
Xeomin® is a wonderful treatment that requires very little pre-treatment or post-treatment care. Come in, get injected, and head right back to life with no downtime. Xeomin® is often referred as a “lunchtime treatment” as it would be possible to get your treatment and be back to work in the span of a lunch break. After the treatment, you may return to any activities except vigorous exercises for 24 hours.

2. You can wear make up immediately after your treatment
There is very little risk of infection after the injection. You are encouraged to use make up after the treatment, as there can be a little bit of redness after an injection. If you have the treatment over lunch, a little camouflage can be helpful in the office.

3. You’re not numb
Contrary to popular belief, Xeomin® injections prevent the muscles from moving, but do not give you a numb feeling. You will still function normally. But it is advisable to avoid any alcohol, anti-inflammatory drugs and aspirin before the treatment. This may help to prevent bruising.

4. Think long-term
BTx may not work on all wrinkles and some patients need more than others. Think about what you want from your treatment and if it suits you. With repeated treatment, wrinkles often appear less severe over time because the muscles are trained to be less active. If you are considering injections you should have a full consultation with your Doctor first to help you plan what is best for you.

5. Does it work for everyone?
It can be performed on people of any age (within reasons), skin type or gender and for the most part the results are excellent. However, there are exceptions and not everyone responds equally well to it. These can be due to how your body reacts to the protein and in some extreme cases; certain people may appear to be immune to BTx and will experience no effects from it whatsoever. In summary, after serving the aesthetics industry for over 25 years, it works on just about everyone and for most people the results are long lasting and impressive.

6. There’s no harm trying
Is toxin right for you? One of the best ways to find out is to give it a try. We’re certain you’ll love your results, but if for some reason you don’t, it isn’t permanent. Your results will start to fade in about 3-4 months. Call us today and schedule your appointment for BTx consultation at Clique® Clinic.
